VISIT OF WOMEN RECEIVING LOANS OF THE MICROFINANCE-PROGRAM OF
HANDSWITHHANDS Chitwan District, November 27th – December 6th / 2008
Original report as written by Reka Szalay
Summary
Ramchandra K.C. was taking me during 10 days to the different group members of the micro
financing program of `Handswithhands`.
We talked to several members and were questioning mostly, how much loan they received, in
what they invested the money, what kind of experience they had and what profit they could
generate out of the loan. I also asked often if the children are going to school.
I could assist also one day when Shila KC collected the loans of the 2
nd
group, and one day when
she distributed the loan to 12 members of the newly built 1
st
group of the cooperation side.
Investments with a shorter pay back value (the following listings are summarized and not
complementary):
A large amount of women invested the loan in buying goats growing them up, feeding them
and let them bore goat-calf’s which they can sell.
Some women invested in a wooden shop, where they sell biscuits, snacks, noodles, wine,
meat, household items, cosmetics, fruits etc. They are buying the items in nearer markets,
sometimes also farer, e.g. in Bharatpur some could also build the 2
nd
year a bigger shop and
include it to the house.
